Turnkey CMMC enclave for aerospace suppliers. From the desk to the CNC.
A turnkey enclave gets your CUI users working in days or weeks. In an aerospace shop, the drawings then go to the CNC, the CMM and the printer. This guide shows how to cover both at the same time, with each provider's published timeline.

What is the fastest turnkey CMMC enclave for an aerospace supplier?
Turnkey CMMC enclave providers publish onboarding in 24 hours to three weeks, and audit readiness or certification in about 90 days. The fastest path runs two projects at the same time: a turnkey IT enclave for the people who handle CUI, and protection for the machines that receive it.
For the desk, turnkey providers such as NtelSec (CUI Vault), Ariento (Enclave One), Collinear (Hardstand) and Point North deliver a managed CMMC Level 2 environment, its documentation and support through the assessment. The fastest onboarding is NtelSec's CUI Vault, in 24 hours.
For the floor, deploy an Access Gate in connection with these providers. In an aerospace shop, the drawing goes from the desk to the CAM station, the DNC server, the 5-axis machine, the CMM that inspects the first article and the printer that prints the traveler. Those machines are in your assessment scope. Access Gate protects them, is installed in a day and does not add time to the enclave project.
Which turnkey CMMC enclaves are there, and how fast are they?
Each row states the offer and the timeline in the provider's own words, from its public page. The last column answers one question for an aerospace shop: are the machines that receive the drawings covered?
| Provider | What it is | Published timeline | CNCs, CMMs and printers |
|---|---|---|---|
| CUI Vault, by NtelSec (Trout partner) | A turnkey CMMC Level 2 readiness solution on a managed Microsoft GCC High environment, with documentation and evidence. | Onboarding in 24 hours. | Yes, with Access Gate. CUI Vault connects to Access Gate so drawings and toolpaths reach the machines without landing on a local workstation. |
| Ariento, Enclave One | A CMMC Level 2 enclave with Microsoft 365 GCC or GCC High, all documentation, and a C3PAO assessment included in the price. | Onboarding in as little as 72 hours. Most companies onboard in under two weeks. Certification in SPRS within 90 days. | Not mentioned. The page lists SolidWorks among the apps on its managed desktops and does not mention shop-floor machines. |
| Collinear Group, Hardstand | A fully managed CMMC Level 2 enclave: a virtual desktop for CUI work, policies, the SSP and mock audit support. | Roughly three months from contract award to certification: provision in weeks 1 to 3, assess from week 12. | Not mentioned. The page says everyone outside the enclave keeps the email, ERP and tools they already use. |
| Point North, Secure Enclave | A hosted, managed CMMC Level 2 environment with web access, encrypted email, file sharing and SIEM monitoring. | Audit-ready in as little as 90 days, depending on your current environment. | Not mentioned. Ask how shop-floor assets would be scoped. |
These are examples, not a ranking. A provider's timeline is its own target for its own scope, not a promised certification date. Provider pages checked on 26 October 2026. If you only need the enclave types compared, including PreVeil, Summit 7 and Cuick Trac, see CMMC enclaves for small manufacturers.
Where does CUI go in an aerospace machine shop?
The CUI arrives at a desk, from a prime's portal or by email. Then it follows the part. Each step below is a copy of CUI, and each one is in your assessment scope.
| Step | What holds CUI | Turnkey IT enclave | Access Gate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Prime portal and email | The drawing package and the purchase order | Yes | Not needed |
| CAD/CAM and PLM | The model, the drawing and the toolpath you program from it | Only if CAM runs inside its virtual desktop | Yes |
| DNC server | Every toolpath built from a CUI drawing | No | Yes |
| CNC and 5-axis machines | The program in the controller | No | Yes |
| CMM and first article inspection | The ballooned drawing and the inspection report | No | Yes |
| Additive and NDT stations | Build files and inspection images tied to the part | No | Yes |
CMMC calls these machines specialized assets. Under 32 CFR 170.19, a Level 2 assessment does not test specialized assets against every NIST SP 800-171 requirement, but they must appear in your asset inventory, your SSP and your network diagram, and be managed under your security policy. A CNC controller cannot run an agent or ask for MFA, so that management happens at the network. See CMMC exceptions and compensating controls for OT.
How long does a turnkey CMMC enclave take?
A fast timeline can mean four different dates. Ask every provider which date its number measures.
Enclave in use
Days to weeks. Turnkey providers publish onboarding from 24 hours to a few weeks for the users who handle CUI. Data migration can add time.
Shop floor covered
Installed, configured and operating in a day. Connect Access Gate to your existing firewall or router, set who can reach each machine, and the session logs start that day. At Thales, each restricted environment took 4 hours.
Assessment-ready
About 90 days is the target the providers above publish. The SSP, the policies and the evidence must cover both the enclave and the machines. Access Gate exports the machine inventory, the enforced policy and the session logs.
Certified
Depends on the assessor and on what your contract requires. No enclave provider can grant it. Only a C3PAO assessment does, and only when your contract calls for one. Phase II third-party assessments are suspended, so ask whether a C3PAO slot is available before you count on a date.
What is different about CMMC for aerospace suppliers?
In CMMC compliance for aerospace companies, much of the work already exists: an AS9100D quality system and ITAR export controls. Most of it carries over to CMMC. The machines are where it usually does not.
AS9100D records
AS9100D already asks you to control documented information (clause 7.5). Your drawing control and revision records become CMMC evidence. They show who handled the drawing at the desk. Access Gate logs who reached the machine.
ITAR technical data
Only US persons may access ITAR technical data, unless you hold an export license. GCC High is the Microsoft cloud built to hold it. On the floor, Access Gate binds every session to a named identity from your directory and records it, so you can show who reached the machine holding the ITAR program.
First article inspection
An AS9102 first article report is built from the ballooned drawing. The CMM and the inspection station then hold CUI, even when the drawing was stored in the enclave. They belong in the boundary diagram.
Machine builders and service vendors
Machine builders connect to 5-axis machines and CMMs for support. NIST SP 800-171 asks for MFA, a named user and monitoring on that remote access (3.5.1, 3.5.3, 3.1.12). See secure remote access for how vendors reach one machine, for one session.
The same path applies to any CNC shop with a DoD drawing, not only aerospace. The enclave types and how Access Gate pairs with each are in CMMC enclaves for small manufacturers.
How does Access Gate work with a turnkey enclave?
Access Gate is an appliance on the shop-floor network. It runs alongside the turnkey enclave and covers the machines that use the CUI.
Connects to your existing firewall
Connect Access Gate to your existing firewall or router, and add one rule that forwards the machine traffic to Access Gate for protection and compliance. Nothing is installed on the machines.
Evidence for the assessor
Access Gate produces evidence for 87 of the 110 NIST SP 800-171 controls at the network layer. The shared responsibility matrix lists who owns each control.
A tunnel to GCC High
Access Gate connects to a GCC High enclave over an IPsec/IKEv2 tunnel that uses FIPS 140-3 validated modules (CMVP certificates #5441 and #5031). See the last hop from the cloud enclave to the machine.
One SSP
The enclave and the shop floor report to one System Security Plan. The assessor sees one boundary that includes the machines. See CUI enclave architecture.

Seven questions to ask a turnkey CMMC enclave provider before you sign
- 1
Which date does your timeline measure?
Onboarding, assessment readiness or certification. Ask for each date in writing, with the assumptions behind it.
- 2
Are our machines in the boundary?
Ask for a boundary diagram that shows the CAM stations, the DNC server, the CNCs and the CMMs. If a machine receives CUI, it should be on it.
- 3
How does a toolpath get from the enclave to a machine?
Every transfer is a copy of CUI. Ask which control protects that path and who logs it.
- 4
Can we keep our CAD/CAM and post-processors?
Ask for a demonstration with your real drawings, including the export to a machine.
- 5
Who owns each control?
Ask for a written responsibility matrix. Compare it with ours for the network controls on the floor.
- 6
Which controls do we inherit from your environment?
Ask for the list of NIST SP 800-171 controls the enclave provides, and proof that its cloud meets FedRAMP Moderate or equivalent under DFARS 252.204-7012. Every control you do not inherit stays yours, including the controls on the shop floor.
- 7
Does the enclave support ITAR technical data?
Ask who administers it and where the data is stored. Then ask how ITAR programs reach the machines on your floor, and who logs that access.
CMMC status
CMMC Phase II third-party assessments have been suspended since 13 July 2026. The NIST 800-171 obligation stands: the controls, the self-assessment and the SPRS affirmation still apply to contracts with CUI. Check what your prime or contracting officer requires before you pay for a certification program.
What covering the shop floor costs
$399 per month
$780 for the appliance, then $399 per month for license and support. The first 30 days of license are free. One plant, up to 200 machines, ordered online and plugged in yourself.
More plants, more machines, or enterprise support. Tell us which turnkey enclave you use or are choosing. We show where your machines sit in the boundary and how Access Gate covers them, while the enclave onboards your users.
Questions about turnkey CMMC enclaves for aerospace suppliers.
Keep the scope small and run two projects in parallel. A turnkey IT enclave (for example CUI Vault, Ariento Enclave One, Collinear Hardstand or Point North) onboards the users who handle CUI in days or weeks. Trout Access Gate covers the CNCs, CMMs and printers that receive the drawings, installed in a day. Turnkey providers publish targets of about 90 days to audit readiness or certification.
With a turnkey enclave, the users who handle CUI can be working in 24 hours to three weeks. Providers publish audit readiness or certification in about 90 days. The shop floor is covered in parallel: Access Gate is installed, configured and operating in a day. Certification itself depends on the C3PAO and on what your contract requires.
No. Only a C3PAO assessment grants a CMMC Level 2 (C3PAO) status. A Level 2 self-assessment is your own, posted in SPRS. Provider timelines are targets for their own scope. Ask which date each number measures: onboarding, assessment readiness or certification.
Yes, when they hold CUI. An AS9102 first article report is built from the ballooned drawing, so the CMM and the inspection station hold CUI when that drawing is CUI. Document them in your SSP as specialized assets and manage them with controls at the network.
ITAR technical data must stay with US persons unless an export authorization says otherwise. Restrict who reaches the machines that hold ITAR programs to named US persons, and log every session. Access Gate binds each shop-floor session to a named identity from your directory and records it.
Yes. AS9100D already asks you to control documented information, so your drawing control and revision records can serve as CMMC evidence. They cover the desk. The machines need their own access control and logs.
Usually not. Of the providers compared above, only CUI Vault covers the machines, and it does so through Access Gate. Access Gate Starter costs $780 for the appliance, then $399 per month for license and support, with the first 30 days of license free. It covers one plant with up to 200 machines. Several plants and enterprise support are on the pricing page.
Yes. CMMC Phase II third-party assessments have been suspended since 13 July 2026. Fast now means a complete SSP, a NIST 800-171 self-assessment score posted in SPRS, and evidence that is ready when assessments resume. Check what your prime requires before you pay for a certification package.
