Trout Software today released Access Gate v26.6, the latest version of its on-premise Zero Trust platform for IT, OT, and critical environments. The release focuses on operating Access Gate across many sites and devices: upgrading fleets over the network, brokering and auditing remote access into OT, and writing access rules at the protocol level.
What's new
- Network upgrades over HTTP(S): fleets can be upgraded over the network instead of per-device USB. Packages are signed and verified before an A/B install, and a failed upgrade rolls back automatically, including the pre-upgrade backup.
- Privileged Access Management for OT: SSH, RDP, and VNC sessions are brokered through Access Gate, authorized per enclave, and audited, so a maintenance team or third-party vendor reaches only the assets a given enclave grants.
- Protocol-aware ACL rules: allow and deny conditions on specific protocol values, such as capping a Modbus coil value or filtering HTTP requests by User-Agent, without re-architecting the network.
- Reworked Tailscale VPN integration: the same segmentation, access control, and audit are applied to Tailscale flows as to on-premise traffic, for remote and distributed IT.
- New threat detections: built-in rules for SMB relay, reverse shell, Telnet usage, and Tor / DNS tunnelling, tuned for IT and OT.
- Automated risk-assessment reports: PDF reports generated from current control data, for NIS2 or IEC 62443 reviews.
Most of the assets our customers protect cannot be patched or moved to the cloud, and they are spread across many sites. v26.6 is about operating Access Gate across that reality: upgrade a whole fleet over the network, broker and audit every remote session into OT, and write access rules at the protocol level.
The hard part is doing this safely on systems you cannot take offline. From large feature to stability improvement, this release raises the bar for Trout Access Gate products.
